We will be offering an NRA Range Safety Officer Course on the above date. Cost is $90. Course includes all materials needed. No prior safety officer training or instructor credentials needed. Prior shooting experience helpful but not mandatory. You must be 21 in order to attend this course.
If you’re running a shooting sports program at your Boy Scout Troop or Venturing Crew units you need to have at least one range safety officer in addition to a certified instructor in the discipline. This course satisfies that requirement.
Course is 9 hours. Course starts at 9am, ends at 6pm. Lunch time included. You can brown bag your lunch or order pizza with the staff. Bring about $10 for lunch if you will order pizza.
Course is located in the “Scout Hut” at Cameron United Methodist Church. Street address is 3130 Franconia Road, Alexandria, VA 22310. It is located on Franconia Road at the intersection of Franconia and Telegraph Roads. The Scout Hut is the small building in the field to the right of the main Church building – right off the Church parking lot. (Not to be confused with the doctor’s office building at the exact intersection of Franconia and Telegraph Roads.)
Course Description: The NRA Range Safety Officer Course develops NRA Certified Range Safety Officers with the knowledge, skills, and attitude essential to organizing, conducting, and supervising safe shooting activities and range operations. Range Safety Officer candidates will learn roles and responsibilities of an RSO; Range Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs); range inspection; range rules; range briefings; emergency procedures; and clearing firearm stoppages and malfunctions.
